Heat Pump Maintenance
Keep your heat pump running efficiently in every season with professional maintenance. Regular tune-ups help prevent unexpected breakdowns, improve energy efficiency, extend system life, and ensure reliable heating and cooling year-round.
Why Regular Maintenance Matters
- Lower Energy BillsA clean, well-maintained system uses less energy and costs less to operate.
- Prevent BreakdownsRegular maintenance helps identify small issues before they become costly repairs.
- Extend System LifeKeep your mini-split in top shape and get more years out of your investment.
- Quiet & ReliableMaintain quiet operation and consistent comfort all year long.
What’s included in our Maintenance
- Air Filter CheckInspect, clean, or replace the air filter to improve airflow, indoor air quality, and overall system efficiency.
- Coil CleaningClean the indoor and outdoor coils to improve heat transfer and maintain efficient heating and cooling performance.
- Drain System CheckInspect and clear the condensate drain line and pan to help prevent clogs, leaks, and water damage.
- Electrical InspectionInspect wiring, capacitors, contactors, relays, and electrical connections for safe and reliable operation.
- Refrigerant CheckVerify refrigerant charge and operating pressures, and inspect the system for signs of possible leaks.
- Fan & Motor CheckInspect the indoor blower, outdoor fan motor, and moving components for smooth, quiet operation.
- Defrost System TestTest the defrost cycle and controls to ensure reliable winter performance and proper ice removal.
- Performance TestingTest heating and cooling operation, airflow, temperature output, and overall heat pump performance.

FAQ
Heat pump maintenance questions
Twice a year is best, because a heat pump works in both seasons. Book one visit in spring before the cooling season and one in fall before the heating season. Regular service keeps the system efficient and catches problems before a cold night or a heat wave puts it under pressure.
Each visit includes an air filter check, indoor and outdoor coil cleaning, a drain system check, an electrical inspection, a refrigerant check, a fan and motor check, a defrost system test and performance testing in both heating and cooling. We explain anything that needs attention before it becomes a breakdown.
In winter, frost builds up on the outdoor coil and the defrost cycle melts it. If the defrost control or a sensor fails, ice can build up and stop the heat pump from heating. Testing it before winter helps make sure the system keeps your home warm through cold New England weather.
Clean or replace the filters regularly, keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, snow and ice, and leave at least a foot of open space around it. Do not chip ice off the coil by hand. Book professional service twice a year for the parts that need a trained technician.
Yes. We service central ducted heat pumps, ductless mini-split heat pumps, cold-climate heat pumps and hybrid systems from all major brands. Whatever the type, each visit covers the same core checks, plus anything specific to your system, such as zone controls or a backup furnace that runs on the coldest days.
