FAQ
Mini-split questions
With proper installation and regular maintenance, most mini-split systems last 12 to 15 years or longer. Clean the filters every few weeks during heavy use, keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and snow, and book a professional tune-up once a year so the system stays efficient and reliable.
Yes. Mini-splits are highly energy-efficient because they eliminate duct losses and cool or heat only the spaces you use. Each room or zone has its own control, so you do not pay to heat or cool empty rooms, and inverter compressors adjust their speed to match the demand.
Absolutely. Modern heat pump mini-splits provide reliable heating even during cold New England winters. Cold-climate models such as Mitsubishi Hyper Heat keep heating efficiently well below freezing, and we mount outdoor units on raised stands so snow and ice do not block the airflow.
Depending on the outdoor unit, a single system can support multiple indoor units for different rooms or zones. A single-zone system runs one indoor unit, while a multi-zone outdoor unit can run several. We size each zone during the free estimate so every room gets the right capacity.
We recommend professional maintenance once a year, or twice a year if the system operates year-round. A tune-up covers the filters, coils, drain line, refrigerant, electrical connections and a test in heating and cooling, which keeps the system quiet, efficient and less likely to break down.
No. Regular filter cleaning and annual professional service are usually all that's needed to keep the system running efficiently. The washable filters take a few minutes to rinse, and a technician handles the coil cleaning, drain line and electrical checks that need the right tools and training.
