FAQ
Heat pump repair questions
A heat pump can blow cool air for a few minutes during its defrost cycle, which is normal. If it continues, the cause may be low refrigerant, a stuck reversing valve, a failed sensor or a thermostat setting. Check that the thermostat is on heat, then call us so a technician can diagnose it.
A light layer of frost is normal, and the defrost cycle melts it. Thick ice that stays for hours is not. It can come from low refrigerant, a failed defrost control, poor airflow or a blocked drain. Never chip ice off the coil. Turn the system off and call us instead.
This usually points to a failed reversing valve, a wiring or control board problem, or a thermostat that is set up incorrectly. Our technicians test the controls and the valve, explain what failed and repair it, then run the system in both modes to make sure it heats and cools properly.
Yes. We repair central ducted heat pumps, ductless mini-split heat pumps, cold-climate Hyper Heat systems and hybrid systems that pair a heat pump with a furnace. Whatever the setup, we diagnose the cause first and explain your options clearly before any repair work starts in your home.
Watch for weak heating or cooling, strange noises, water leaks, ice that will not melt, a system that runs constantly, or error codes on the indoor unit. Higher energy bills with no change in how you use the system are another sign. Early repairs are usually simpler than fixing a full breakdown.
Often, yes. Top Climate works 24/7 and treats a heat pump that stops heating in winter as an emergency. Call (339) 224-8416, tell us what the system is doing and any error code you see, and we will give you the earliest time a technician can be at your home.
