Mini-split maintenance questions
Spring is ideal for cooling and fall for heating. If your mini-split runs year-round, book both visits. If it mostly cools or mostly heats, one visit a year before that season is usually enough. Booking early avoids the busy weeks when every system in the area is working hard.
Dirty filters and coils cut airflow, so the system uses more energy and struggles to keep rooms comfortable. Drain lines can clog and leak water, coils can freeze, and small electrical or refrigerant issues can turn into breakdowns. Regular service prevents most of these problems before they start.
Our mini-split maintenance includes filter cleaning, cleaning of the evaporator and condenser coils, a drain line check, an electrical inspection, a refrigerant check, a fan and motor check, system testing in heating and cooling, and a final safety check. We cover the indoor units and the outdoor unit in one visit.
A musty smell usually comes from dust and moisture building up on the filters, the indoor coil or the blower wheel, which can let mold grow. Clean the filters first. If the smell continues, book a cleaning so a technician can clean the coil and the blower wheel properly and safely.
Turn the unit off, lift the front panel and slide out the filters. Rinse them with lukewarm water, let them dry completely and slide them back in. Do this every few weeks when the system runs daily. Dirty filters reduce airflow and make the whole system work harder than it should.
